Congress building (per usual). Additionally, this will serve as election day for the nominees interested in taking up positions as officers for the Fall semester.

We ask that as many of you try to be there in order to have a fair election. This will include meeting the nominees, hearing their opinions on why they think they’d be good for the spot their running for, as well as the actual voting process. It should hopefully last only a half hour at the most and you’re not required to stay for the actual DIY Days portion of the meeting (though we definitely welcome you to do so).

Speaking of which, even if you don’t have some broken piece of gear that needs some tearing apart or troubleshooting, we offer the following: for $10, you can assemble and keep your own 20 foot XLR cable. We’ll even show you how to do it! Don’t worry if you have no soldering experience or knowledge of electronics, we’ll hold your hand through the whole process. Not only is it a good deal, but a great learning experience as well.

That’s all for now, hope to see you folks at the DIY Days/Election Meeting.

AES Columbia's First Meeting of the Year!

AES 133rd Convention | Student Recording Competition officially open! Upgraded rules...

One of our main educational events at any AES show is the Student Recording Competition, where students present their current work as future professional engineers of music and sound design.

Check out our new and improved guidelines for Category 4: Sound for Visual Media, and read our updated format requirements for surround submissions. The new rules also include suggestions for the length of your audio tracks and written report. Read the full policies to learn how you can maintain the exceptional quality and continued integrity of SRC judging by keeping your work anonymous and free of influencing clues.

As usual, there is a tremendous group of Judges for each category. Even if you are not a participating finalist, you will still want to hear what they have to say. The full line up which includes some of the best ears in the industry will be unveiled soon. Sponsors are lining up to award some really awesome Prizes for the winners.

Feeling unsure about how to prepare written documentation about your recording? We have uploaded into our AES SDA blog some impressive material from past SRC winners just to give you an impression of how you should present yours (it’s not a template so you shouldn’t copy it really, just draw some inspiration from it). See here!

AES 133rd Student Recording Competition deadline is October 1st, 2012.

Recording engineers, studio owners, musicians, students, and pro-audio representatives meet monthly to discuss techniques and issues facing the recording industry.
